Harrow Hong Kong is proud to present two leading guests from the charity sector for its regular Speaker’s Forum feature on Wednesday 9th May 2018.
The Prep School (Years 6-8) will welcome Phyllis Marwah, Co-Founder of Mother’s Choice, a Hong Kong charity that has provided and promoted loving, nurturing care for babies and children needing permanent homes, and for single girls and their families facing crisis pregnancies since 1987.
Ms. Marwah has helped to grow Mother's Choice from a small group of concerned friends to an organisation that has impacted thousands in Hong Kong and inspired sister organisations in India, China and Cambodia. She is also a mother to seven children, and grandmother to ten grandchildren. Her children live in Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles, and have been inspired by her work with women and children in Asia.
Meanwhile, Janne Ritskes, Founder of the Tabitha Foundation Cambodia, will update Years 9-10 pupils on her current project of building a women’s hospital, working in partnership with Harrow Hong Kong’s supported charity Crossroads to supply the hospital with equipment.
Ms. Ritskes founded Tabitha in 1994 after she grew disillusioned with the policies and practices of mainstream NGOs operating in Cambodia. She resides in the country with her adopted daughter, Miriam. and is a citizen of Canada and Cambodia. She manages the operations in Cambodia with a staff of over 50 people composed entirely of Cambodians, trained by her.
She has over 35 years or international experience with integrated community development programmes and her work has focused on the poorest of the poor in the slums of the US, the Philippines, Kenya and Cambodia.
Parents and staff are also welcome to attend either session.
Date: Wednesday 9th May 2018
Locations: Lecture Hall (Mother’s Choice); W622S (Tabitha Foundation)
