Harrow Hong Kong Student in Olympic Swimming Qualifying Event

Singha Chau, a Senior School student from Harrow International School Hong Kong, was selected as the number one Open Water swimmer to represent Hong Kong in the FINA Marathon Swimming Olympic Games 10km Marathon Swimming Qualification Tournament on the Atlantic coast of Setubal, Portugal on 12 June 2016. The top ten swimmers (one per nation) and the next five best placed athletes, (one from each continent) qualified for a place in the Rio Olympics alongside the top ten from last year’s World Championship 10km Open Water event.

Being the youngest swimmer in the race by several years, he finished in 51st place out of 61 competitors and came first in Hong Kong. This outstanding achievement has given Singha inspiration and invaluable experience for the next four-year cycle toward qualifying for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The standard of the participants was very impressive. It included the reigning Olympic Champion Ous Mellouli from Tunisia and the World Cup holder Christian Reichert of Germany. FINA website: www.fina.org/competition/22658/1404
