Fifteen Harrow Hong Kong pupils have qualified for the Global Rounds of the 2018 World Scholar’s Cup after impressive performances at the recent Hong Kong regional round (3-4 March).
Hosted at Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School, some 25 medals were amassed among the Harrow contingent, with highlights including:
· Emily (Year 12, Keller) achieved first place for Creative Writing
· Victor (Year 13, Peel), Steven (Year 11, Peel) and Stephanie (Year 13, Gellhorn) – Team 421 – finishing as 14th team in Debating
· Eve (Year 13, Keller), Stephenie (Year 10, Gellhorn) and Elbert (Year 13, Churchill) – Team 423 – finishing as 23rd overall team
· Helen (Year 7, Nightingale) and Victor were top scholars in our School
· Victor was 19th in the Debating Championship
· Eve was 14th in the Writing Championship
Congratulations to all our teams and participants, who will now go on to represent Harrow Hong Kong at the Global Round in either Barcelona (July) or Melbourne (August).
The World Scholar’s Cup was first staged in 2007 as a tournament which celebrates of the joy of learning; a tournament as rewarding for the team that comes in last as the for the team that comes in first; and an enrichment opportunity that motivates pupils not just to demonstrate their existing strengths but to discover new ones.
Worldwide, over 12,000 scholars take part in over 100 regional rounds, all aiming to qualify for the Global Rounds and ultimately the Tournament of Champions, hosted at Yale University.
