Taiwan Cultural Exchange

Following two years of successful Chinese cultural trips to Taiwan, ten students from Tainan Municipal Jhongsiao Junior High School visited Harrow Hong Kong in the last week of the Autumn Term from 7 to 11 December 2015. The purpose of the visit was to express our gratitude for the warm hospitality of the Taiwan school from previous trips and to provide students here an opportunity to develop their cultural awareness.

The Taiwanese students were paired up with a host student from Harrow Hong Kong. They attended classes together and travelled around Hong Kong during their stay. At school they participated in various activities such as group projects in Chinese and they went to several school events (a rugby match, the carol concert, and the House Singing Competition rehearsal). They also visited different Houses to experience the daily life of Harrow Hong Kong students.

On the second day, they visited the surrounding area of the School, including the Gold Coast Beach and they tasted the local Hong Kong style milk tea. The following day, the group toured the famous Jade Market in Yau Ma Tei and the city’s financial hub in Central. During the week, the Taiwanese students also enjoyed a very famous local dish: goose meat and they also visited one of the School’s partnered charities, the Crossroads Foundation.

After a week of time together in Hong Kong, our students collected many lovely memories with the exchange students from Taiwan. Our students were all very thankful for being able to join this exchange programme. They had a chance to use and speak Chinese in their real life, to make new friends, and to share stories through this hosting opportunity. All the students are now looking forward to the next exchange opportunity.
