On Sunday 5 March, the School entered an U10 and U12 hockey team into the Kowloon Cricket Club’s annual tournament. This is a prestigious and historic competition, with all matches played on grass, much to the delight of the purists!
There was a real festival feel at the KCC, and both teams quickly adapted to their surroundings. The U12s progressed through their group stage, defeating teams from Khalsa Sports Club and Hong Kong Football Club with strong performances. After a hard fought contest, the team then lost in the plate semi-final 3-0 to a very skilful Hong Kong Football Club A team, but they should be congratulated for their team spirit and enthusiasm demonstrated throughout the day.
The U10 team played confidently in the early rounds, putting in fine performances against Gojra and PLK Wong Wing Shu Primary School to also reach the plate semi-final. This was an extremely close match against HKCC, and one that went all the way to penalty strokes following a 1-1 draw. Amidst scenes of great drama, the contest reached the 6th phase of sudden death penalties before some heroic goal tending from the opposition got the better of our flick takers. All players should take huge credit for the manner in which they conducted themselves throughout a very competitive tournament. They certainly gelled and progressed as a team.
The U12 squad comprised Guy Alexander (captain) Angus O’Connor (Y6, Darwin), Robbie Haik, Charlie Johnson, Nicholas Ng, Jamie Perring (Y6, Shackleton), Jonathan Brockwell, Andrew Tai, and player of the day William Durrant (Y6, Banks).
The U10 squad comprised Iona Alexander (Y5, Tiger), Ellie Johnson, Jack Callan(Y5, Tiger), Freddie Durrant (Y5, Monkey), Adi Mahtani (Y5, Tiger), Jasper Brockwell (Y5, Monkey), Cheston Yeung(Y5, Dragon), and player of the day Otto O’Connor (Y5, Monkey).
