During October half term, 17 students from Years 10 to 12 travelled to the eastern part of the USA. The purpose was to visit several of the main east coast colleges to give students an insight into what it would be like to study and live at a top university in the United States.
After a 15-hours flight, the first two nights were spent in New York where the students were able to enjoy some sightseeing, watch a Broadway show and also visit NYU and Columbia University.
In Philadelphia, the students visited the University of Pennsylvania and then moved on to New Jersey to see Princeton University. The following day was Yale and Brown in Connecticut and Rhode Island respectively and then it was up to Boston for Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Boston College and Northeastern. On the last day we drove up to Vermont and just over the border in New Hampshire we visited Dartmouth College and finally back to Massachusetts for Amherst College.
At each university, the students were given a campus tour and admissions information, which will help them decide which university to apply for in the future. During the visit, the students visited a lot of different places. They were inspired to keep working hard so that hopefully one day, they will be able to study at one of the beautiful and historic universities on the United States’ East Coast.
