WINS AT WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP

In August, nine students Angela, Ben Wang, Eve, Elbert, Joshua, Karen, Shirley, Steven and Victor competed in the Global Round of World Scholar’s Cup in Cape Town against 163 teams from 32 countries.

The competition formally started with an opening ceremony at the Cape Town International Convention Centre after which they enjoyed the Waterfront. At DF Malan High School, vigorous debating and creative writing took place and judging was hard as the standard was phenomenal. This was followed by a Cultural Fair at the Convention Centre. The students also had a chance to witness the nominated best debaters in action, participate in the signature Scholars’ Ball and spend time with newly-met friends and opponents they had challenged during the competition! The group also saw the most significant sights of the city. Led by a guide, absorbed the history of South Africa and managed to see Nelson Mandela’s cell on Robben Island, thousands of seals on Seal Island, thousands of penguins on Boulders’ Beach and hiked from the light house to Cape Point.

All three Harrow Hong Kong teams achieved amazing results at the competition. Most importantly, the students made life-long connections with people from all around the world. They were allowed to experience cultures that they would not have had the opportunity to if not for this event. The students were truly excellent ambassadors for Harrow International School Hong Kong and qualified for the Yale round. The results were as follow:
