Andy Hung, owner of Morpheus, who produces Manga versions of classic books such as Pride and Prejudice and Les Miserables, visited Harrow Hong Kong to meet students from Years 5 and 6 on Thursday 19 November.
Andy explained how he and his friend were inspired to turn classic tales of adventure and love into Manga books. He hoped that once they had read the Manga version, readers would then feel more confident about approaching the original text. The students were fascinated as he described how these Manga books are made: from the scriptwriter adapting the book to the artists bringing the characters to life as Manga cartoons. The students were even lucky enough to see pictures from Andy’s latest books that have yet to be published: The Count of Monte Christo and Jane Eyre.
Hands shot up after the presentation as our students were eager to learn more about the books. Andy rewarded the student who asked the best question with a framed copy of an original sketch from the early drafts of Sense and Sensibility.
In all, the students were delighted with the talk and we would like to thank Andy for his fascinating insights into the graphic novel industry and his donation of books to the Library.
