Speakers’ Forum: Sir David Akers-Jones on 9 November 2015

Sir David Akers-Jones ?was pleased to ?visited Harrow International School Hong Kong as he had lived in a house on the foreshore of So Kwun Wat, long before the Gold Coast development was built and the sea was reclaimed. He remembered having to climb the hill to clear the drains to his house after heavy rainfall. He shared details of his very long life with the students. He told them how he joined the Merchant Navy at the end of the Second World War, spent time in Malaysia and how this had put his education on hold for a while.  He eventually went to Brasenose College Oxford when he initially read English but soon swapped to Languages. He shared his memories? of his time in the Colonial Service in Malaysia and in Hong Kong where he had a long attachment with the New Territories.
