Lower School Students Learn the Diwali Traditions

On Friday 14 October, the Lower School lit up with colour and light as we celebrated the Hindu Festival of Diwali. Staff and children came to ?School in brightly coloured clothes and costumes to get into the mood for an exciting day full of activities. We enjoyed themed snacks and a wonderful Diwali banquet altogether.

After lunch, we went into our shared areas and took part in Diva making, Rangoli patterns, storyboards and even traditional dancing! Some wonderful parents had come in to decorate our shared areas with elaborate pujas complete with flowers, candles, herbs and spices and special pictures – a big thank you to the parents that gave up their time and brought resources for the children to enjoy.

The highlight of the day came during assembly, where a visit from author Bhakti Mathur entertained and delighted the children as she shared her popular books about Diwali and Indian culture. The children were excellent listeners and asked some very interesting questions – we were very proud of them. We would like to wish our community a very Happy Diwali and look forward to this becoming an annual event at Harrow Hong Kong.
